This, combined with limited play time has meant my backlog has grown so vast that I’ve had to implement a strict no buying policy until I clear it.

Recently I’ve been thinking about the irony of how when I was younger I always wished I had more money to buy games, and now that I have the money to buy games, I wish I had more time to play them. I saw your plea for more letters! I’ve been reading since the Teletext days and have always tried to at least read the Inbox every day. Which is ironic given that the one that would make a difference – 60fps – is once again left as merely option. A war of numbers that mean almost nothing in terms of what you can see with the naked eye. It’s just going to be 720p/900p/1080p/4K all over again. When Microsoft first started talking about ‘the most powerful console ever made’ I was one of those that thought they were basically ditching the Xbox One and having a soft reboot (which totally made sense given their position) but now the specs are out and their filled with numbers like 30% faster and 20% faster and… well straight off the bat that doesn’t sound like that big a deal.

I know I’ve spoken to people about the PS4 Pro before and they’ve had no idea what I was talking about, even though they do play quite a bit. To the point where I bet most casual gamers never even know they exist. As long as both companies stick to their promises of no exclusives then we aren’t losing out anything and I think it’s pretty obvious that both new machines are going to remain pretty niche. But ultimately I think it’s the fact that they aren’t really that different that makes me okay with them. I do understand the concerns about the ‘upgrade’ consoles, and I think some people are being a bit silly when they say they don’t understand the complaints. As long as it has dewbacks and banthas in it. I don’t want to come across as impatient and entitled, I just think they’re putting the emphasis on the wrong franchise and they’re going to burn people out before they get to any of the interesting stuff. I get that the Battlefront games are quick to make, and the other games are taking a while to make but we’re going to have had two by the end of this year and probably only a very brief glimpse of whatever the other games are at E3 – if that. At that time they were just copying every major game around (they even had Twisted Metal and Mario Kart clones!) and I don’t think much thought was really put into whether it suited the films or not. I don’t think their first one was that popular and they seem to be forgetting that the original LucasArts game was just a blatant Battlefield clone. I’m really surprised EA are putting so much emphasis on Battlefront, considering all the other different Star Wars games they could make.
