I never use my AC30 because it's to loud for almost every gig I've played including FESTIVALS.

But if you're dead set on a amp that will most likely be to loud for every scenario you encounter get the AC15. I've played close to 100 shows with an AC4 and about The same amount with my AC10 in a loud rock band.Įven the AC15 is louder than what 95% of people will ever need. I've gigged for years and own 8 Vox's at this time all kinds of models and years and have owned others in the past as well and an AC4, AC4TV, AC10 are good for almost any "normal" gig and if you are playing a larger show they mic you up anyway. Unless you're playing large festivals or stadiums you'll never need an AC30. These can get real heavy if you put alnico blues in them (like mine!). The only thing I would caution you on is the weight. A master volume that works wonderfully and doesn't suck tone. Probably the most versatile amplifier I have ever owned. I also paid a few $$ extra to get a perfectly balanced pair of triodes in the phase inverter tube. JJ el84's are considered the best bang for the buck. Which was probably intention as you don't want huge wet signal in a high gain amplifier - it will only oscillate/squeel. Also the reverb is considered to be a little meh. There's a few ribbon cables inside that tend to work loose over time (hot glue works great here). The only weakness on these amps is the RCA jacks for the speaker cable connect directly on to the PCB inside which can be a failure spot. Its loud af (way too loud for most sound stages) but it sounds AMAZING. Its truly mind blowing the first time you do that. But when you turn it up to about noon on the master it just goes to the next level. The best thing about this amp is that you can get wonderful distortion at bedroom volumes. Huge tone, massively versatile with all the filtering and tone stack options (its basically capable of every vintage Vox tone from TB to Bass). Mine are just starting to die (2008) and the amp has lost a lot of bite over the last couple of years. Also I would absolutely budget for changing the filter caps if its 10+ years old. Most come used with wrecked GZ34 tubes do to people using the standby switch (don't). Built very very solidly (baltic birch ply cabinet, huge robust chassis, no tube sockets on the PCB etc) and needs minimal maintenance. #Vox ac30cc2 tubes how to
If you decide, whether suggested to you here or not, to open your amp and tinker with it, PLEASE BE CAREFUL, and learn how to do so safely. Tubes amps make use of very high voltages! These voltages can kill you dead. Whether you're a toob noob or Leo Fender reincarnated, you're welcome here. Welcome to r/ToobAmps - A place to discuss that sweet tube tone.
